Situated on the edge of Ihutai, the Avon–Heathcote Estuary in Christchurch, the brief for this contemporary coastal home called for a strong connection to the water and a relaxed living environment.

The design embraces its unique waterfront setting extending the living and dining spaces out to an overwater deck creating an immediacy to the sea views and bird and marine life. This connection is accentuated by a stepped down sea wall designed within “falling from height” requirements, without a balustrade, allowing easy launching of kayaks or a quick dip on a hot day.

A centrally positioned alfresco courtyard offers a sheltered sunny retreat, protected from prevailing sea breezes while affording framed views through to the estuary.

This two-storey, 350 square metre home celebrates its position with expansive water views at the forefront from all primary living and bedroom spaces.
