Dalman Architects is delighted to congratulate Sheraton Hotels and Resorts on their appointment to manage the reimagined former Noahs Hotel in Christchurch.

As the project architects, Dalman is working closely with developers Mainland Capital and Russell Property Group to transform the iconic hotel from its post‑earthquake shell into a contemporary 15‑storey landmark. The building’s celebrated modernist identity is being honoured by retaining the curved façade and its strong horizontal lines. New guest rooms will be added to the eastern façade and a new rooftop bar will ensure guests receive an elevated hotel and entertainment experience.

Taking advantage of the hotel’s prime location, Dalman Architects’ design provides a new double height entrance lobby and forecourt off Worcester Boulevard, allowing for dining and bar offerings to be positioned facing the Avon River and the cobbled Oxford Terrace. Gaining afternoon and evening sun, restaurant patrons will be able to enjoy both indoor and year‑round outdoor terrace dining overlooking the river.

A 15th floor will be added to create Christchurch’s highest-altitude bar and lounge, offering sweeping views over the Avon River, Hagley Park, Port Hills, and the Southern Alps beyond. Additional facilities include a range of flexible function and meeting rooms and fitness centre.

Located next to Te Pae, and with high demand expected from both business and leisure sectors, 33 guest rooms have been added to the eastern, Cathedral Square-facing façade, taking hotel keys to 240 rooms and suites and completing the vision for a revitalised urban landmark.

“We congratulate Marriott International on bringing its Sheraton brand to this iconic landmark in the heart of Christchurch. It has been a delight to work closely with the developers along with Sheraton’s brand team to re-create a hotel that preserves its modernist identity whilst delivering an elevated design and guest experience” said Richard Dalman, Managing Director, Dalman Architects.

This is the second hotel Dalman Architects has designed for Marriott International following the Four Points by Sheraton Auckland completed in 2017.
